Leo Ruickbie Joins Judging Panel for the Fortean Film Festival

This year’s Fortean Film Festival has seen a record number of entries with 162 logged so far and I’ll be joining a fantastic panel of experts to judge them.

The festival features a wide range of categories and multiple opportunities for recognition. Judging will take place in the run-up to a series of live screenings at several venues in the UK.

Viewers will also be involved with an ‘Audience Choice Award’ voted for during the live screenings.

The event takes place on the last UK Bank Holiday weekend of the summer each year. A private party sponsored by the Assocation for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (ASSAP) will kick off the festival on the opening night of Friday 2nd September 2022.

There will be a full day of film screenings on Saturday 3rd September at the Sherborne Cinema in Gloucester. Afterwards, Gloucester Ghost Walks and Triplemoon Paranormal will take attendees on a paranormal tour of haunted Gloucester.

Additionally, ASSAP will screen a selection of films at their ‘Seriously Strange’ conference at the University of Bath, across the weekend from Saturday 3rd September to Sunday 4th September.

Dr Leo Ruickbie, FRHistS, FRAI, Associate of King’s College, is a Visiting Fellow in Psychology at the University of Northampton and the author of six books, most recently Angels in the Trenches: Spiritualism, Superstition and the Supernatural During the First World War. Actively involved in the parapsychological research community, he is a Council Member of the Society for Psychical Research and a Professional Member of the Parapsychological Association. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and a Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute. In 2021, he won third prize in the essay contest organised by the Bigelow Institute for Consciousness Studies.
